The opening weeks of Donald Trump’s presidency unleashed a level of grassroots activity unseen on the progressive side in decades. Both the Women’s March and the mass demonstrations that arose after President Trump’s executive order targeting refugees were inspiring precisely because of the organic nature of this type of activism.
Some have likened the rise of progressive activism in the aftermath of Trump’s election to the Tea Party movement that arose as the opposition force to the Obama presidency. While the Tea Party did arise as a grassroots movement, it was aided by conservative advocacy groups that lent their support to help build the movement’s infrastructure and maximize its electoral impact.
Priorities USA is well positioned to play a similar role to aid the rise of the grassroots movement resisting the Trump presidency.
